three by three - structure on obsession

My wife, recently and rightly described my art "habit" as an obsession.  it is the perfect candidate for untethered singlemindedness that is requisite for an addiction.  It's interesting, because the only reward is the glimmer of recognition that says that piece of work represents something meaningful to me.     

Back before my brush with death and the need for me to attend to my stamina and health, there were of course the clicks and the patreon donations.  But I still continue, with out the more public attention.

As I feed this addiction, ways I find productivity:

• provide myself with a form or constraint.
• I agree with myself that I will continue within this format as long as it produces something pleasing. Escape fights burnout.
• seek input - museums, library books, documentaries, etc
• leave things for a while and come back (this is probably the most important thing)

3X3

these are three by three inch compositions that are often quick and done in batches to explore the possibilities of a particular technique or tool.  As you can see, asemic writing remains a constant in much of the work.  In particular the use of the latin "e pluribus unum" - our countries original motto for the first 180 years. 

I recently purchased some india ink and a pen.  Use of these materials show up through out.  There remains linocut, acrylic monoprint, and recycled and other found object elements as well.

The 3X3 also fits nicely onto a page in my journals.
